During the lockdown, we kept ourselves busy here at Silentk doing what a lot of South Africans were doing, making masks!
Initially, we masked up the local community in our valley. Then we joined the #maskforall campaign and along with an army of sewing volunteers, we masked up the locals in Kurland Village here in The Crags, Plettenberg Bay.
Once all the locals had been covered, we moved onto putting together a range of masks for you lot out there and we can now happy revile the results!
Our new range of masks features some of our best selling designs and a few checky straplines to throw a lighthearted vibe on this dire situation the world has spun.
The masks consist of 3 layers a printed denim one side, sandwiching a 100% cotton inner, finished off with funky African printed waxed cotton (all prewashed and preshrunk). In our journey to this end product, we have constructed many masks, tested many patterns and tieing technics, the final result being this semi sculpted masks with recycled t-shirts used for the ties (by far the most comfortable and strongest way to secure the masks)
The production of these masks has been undertaken by a group of local seamstresses creating work in our community in these unprecedented times. Local is and will always will be lekker Bru, it’s what makes our world go round.
